RE: air ride 5th wheel hitch

Not having had both, I can't give a comparative opinion. We've had our Trailer Saver air hitch for 9 yrs now and it is flawless. Good luck with your efforts to find someone who has or has had both.

RE: Unexpected problem with Goodyesr tires

I've also had what Paul described when I put new steers on my truck. GY told me it would disappear quickly but if I wished, they'd put the new tires on the rear for awhile till they 'broke' in. I let it ride and within a week, all the wander was gone. Had it again later when I put Bridgestones on as new steers and within a week they too were 'normal'.

RE: Need your thoughts!

Excuse a non MHer answer. You can never have too much room. Slides not only give extra room but they also change the character of the space - from sort of a tunnel to a real room. Sure you read of some problems but if you make your decisions based on that, you'll take the rubber off your wheels and ride on the rims. Perhaps no problems are crabbed about more than tires. While you're at it, you probably would want to minimize your risk by taking the motor out of your rig as well. I think if you were to count the number of posts about a slide problem and divide that by the number of slides in use, the ratio would be small indeed. We've FT'd 13 yrs now with slides. That means using the slides in one way or another 365 days per yr for 13 yrs. Have had one problem in all those years and that was a burned out slide motor. Pulled the old one (took one wrench), got the number of the mfr., called them and had them Fed Ex a new one overnight and by noon the next day, the problem was history.

RE: Morgan RV Resorts Contact Info

You are making the assumption that I care whether or not they clean up their act. I don't. There's a lot of fine parks out there and Morgan isn't about to buy them all and screw them up. Actually, there's actually one good thing about Morgan - they're beginning to give KOA a good name. :B

RE: Route 17 S.C.

Can't answer your specific question but a month ago it was a great route for a truck and a 40' 5ver - always has been too. What problem are you anticipating? You give your length but there aren't really any hairpin turns. The lanes on 17 are standard width and there are no low bridges.

RE: Leaving FW hitched?

Luke, no I haven't had problems but someone told me it would be bad for the truck. This is my first RV and I haven't had it very long, so still am very much a newbie. And now a year from now, someone will ask the same question remembering that he read somewhere that someone heard it would be bad for the truck:B :B :B

RE: Countryside RV Resort, Lebanon, Tn

We've stopped there for overnighters probably a half dozen times. EZ in, EZ out, long enough p/t so we can stay hooked up, level, good hookups and satellite friendly. If I remember right, at check in they give you pieces of wrapped chocolate to put on your pillow.

RE: Anybody get cited for no safety sticker in Illinois?

Failure to respond to a citation results in license suspension in the state where the citation was written, if your state is in compact with the state where the citation was written then your home state agrees to suspend your license (most states are in the compact), and the state where the citation was issued will issue a warrant.Maybe so, maybe not. Don't know, don't care. Changed my domicile to SD two yrs later. Been back in that VA jurisdiction many many many times for many many weeks (daughters live there) and my vehicle is rather distinctive and they haven't cited me again (though SD doesn't require one to have a sticker). You also wroteThe Troops know they cannot enforce such out of state laws. It's taught in the academy about the 4th or 5th week. It's been part of the curriculum for over 30 yrs.You must have missed my Barney Fife comment or, better, I'll just assume you are too young to have ever seen Mayberry RFD. Re your academy comment - Did you know that in every class, school, academy, college etc., someone always graduates while being at the absolute rock bottom of the class? I didn't make the story up. In one year, in two different states, an officer tried to enforce a supposed infraction of another state's regs without having a clue as to what the regs of that alien, to them, state said. And neither one could claim that they missed the fact that the outdated sticker was from another state - the sticker is in the shape of the State of Tx. Just plain dumb & stupid.

RE: Anybody get cited for no safety sticker in Illinois?

Deputies are often not a good source for legal advice. Depending on the county that deputy might have never written a safety sticker violation in his entire career, wouldn't even know where to look in the vehicle code for the statute, nor would know a moving violation from a minor citation. 10 or 11 yrs ago, when we were still domiciled in TX (FTers), we were stopped in a construction zone of I-80 near Chicago. We hadn't been back to TX for several yrs so our inspection sticker was out of date (only need to update it when you go back to TX). Anyway, the trooper wrote a ticket for it and I just chuckled. He wondered why I thought it was funny and I said I didn't think he had the authority to enforce TX regulations and that if he did, he should know the TX regs that he was trying to enforce - that I was not out of compliance with TX law. He went back to his car and I could see him talking on his radio. When he came back, he just waved us through. That same year a local LEO in VA also issued a citation for the same thing. Threw it away. There's a Barney Fife everywhere.

RE: Memphis, what to see, where to stay

Tom Sawyer is great. We enjoy Beale St, good BBQ, Memphis in May, Graceland and everything Tunica. Our 1st choice CG is Tom Sawyer and second would be the casino cgs in Tunica. Both are quick easy commutes to everything fun.

RE: Financing a 5th wheel questions/problems

I also think you talk too much. Apply (at a different place) for a loan for your recreational vehicle. Give them your tax returns if they wish for income verification. Keep your mouth shut about full timing and all the other things than keep you from looking normal to bean counters. None of their business. If you insist on talking about FTing, then finance it with a lender that understands FTing. Go to the Escapees RV Club's website and click on commercial members and look at the lenders. Issues like your fulltiming, living in the rig, traveling back and forth across the country won't bother them.

RE: Keeping your RV exterior clean

Barb and Dave have it right. Since I don't know whether there is any petroleum product in a waterless car wash product, I don't know if that is advisable on a rubber roof or not. Even if it were, I can't imagine doing my roof with a product such as that and don't know if, after its application, you'd want to apply a rubber preservative on top of it. For us, I pretty much let nature handle mine and it doesn't really look bad when the only washing it gets is rain. The only ones who can see it might be those who are driving on an overpass as I go under. Even the truckers can't see my roof and I wouldn't clean it for them anyway. Last summer, after 9 yrs with this rig, I did have someone clean and recoat it so it should be good to go for another decade or so.

RE: Naples Fl Campgrounds

I'm sure your research has shown you that Pelican is a motorcoach only park. Large landscaped sites for the most part around a small body of water. Next door to Pelican is Silver Lakes for MHs, TTs and 5vers. Also large sites with most orienting to one of 3 small 'lakes' or on one of the fairways or greens. Similar to SL, CL has large landscaped sites for all types of RVs with about half oriented to a small lake. SL & PL are on the south side of Naples on the road to Marco - about 5-6 miles from the Marco Bridge. CL is about 15 miles north of SL/PL and in a busier more comm'l area (typical comm'l sprawl) of Naples (vs the FL old town com'l style of downtown Naples straight 6 mi west of SL/PL). The drive to the beaches of Marco or Naples is closer and faster from SL/PL than from CL though over Christmas and before the season really starts, it probably isn't a big deal. All 3 parks are socially active but again, things will be slow during Christmas. SL has 2 pools while PL has 1. Don't remember CL. You won't have trouble getting around from any park during the holiday week. PL/SL are an easy shot into the Everglades and Great Cypress NP via Tamiami (US41) Trail (use the Trail vs Alligator - I75 - Alley, it's a nicer drive). You won't go wrong at any of those parks and you should enjoy yourselves with fantastic Gulf weather.

RE: How Many Miles?

In the 9 yrs we've had this FT tow vehicle, we've put on 188,000 miles which averages nearly 21,000/yr. Of that, we've averaged about 8-9,000/yr in tow miles. Our prior FT tow vehicle we had for 3.5 yrs and put on 98,000 miles with about 30,000 of those being towing miles. The miles are split about 60% for DW and 40% for me.

RE: Naples Fl Campgrounds

Not sure what your definitions are. In your prior post on this topic, you were looking for info on "nice" and I wondered what your definition of "nice" might be since that would be relevant to an answer. You didn't respond. Now you ask what is "best". What are your definitions of "best"? Do you define best as 'distance to specific attractions or water or whatever' or in terms of site amenities or park amenities or in terms of social activities or price or what?

RE: crystal lake RV resort, naples, FL

Keep trying?? Go by the park frequently and the office is manned and open. You're using the phone number from their web site, right? If the rental office is not responding, try the general park number. If you don't succeed and are still looking for a spot for this season, you could also try Silver Lakes in Naples - also on Rt951/Collier Blvd. Similar style resort - some pix linked in my sig.

RE: Look for an "EZ in EZ out" with West of West Memphis

While a couple of miles off the interstate, I would agree with Tom Sawyer - even if you arrive after dark, you'll enjoy all the lights as the barges ply the river a hundred yards out your window. Easy, paved, level and long pull throughs.
